Amos, 5.5

Poor Amos. This blog used to be all about him, but now, he's had to share the limelight.
He is a sweet and doting big brother, though, and I am so thankful to get to watch him grow up. He really does love his sister and even though there are times of great frustration for him, he has taken on the roll of oldest sibling, with all of the bossiness and guarding that come with it. He is so sweet and yet, all boy. He loves wrestling and light saber duels, digging in the dirt (next to the sandbox, of course!) and big monster trucks.
School with him has had its ups and downs, but I've tried to keep going, with the same attitude we had last fall which is "this is what we are doing right now." He likes to do to learn, rather than sit and do a worksheet or have to really focus. But that's ok. I am trying to do both with him, and so far, we are seeing little bits of progress.
His imagination continues to grow and bloom, as he loves to re-enact his favorite Star Wars stories, build ships and guns with his Legos and dress up. It's awesome to watch him play and am so thankful to see fruit from his years of being asked to play instead of watch tv or be held. Now, we just have to get through that with Flannery! ;)
A few weeks ago, Amos watched an infant being baptized at church and said that he wanted to be baptized too. When I asked why, he said, "Because God is with me." It has been amazing to see his little faith grow and to see him understand things that might seem too difficult. So next week, we are meeting with our pastor to interview him and see if he's ready.
This week, Amos has been sick, battling a cold and fever. He has been super sweet, often wanting to cuddle with us or sleep in our bed. We've let him and it has been a sweet reminder of how life used to be when it was just the three of us. Nathan and I both agree that our bond with Amos is different than with Flannery (and perhaps, #3), which is just to say that it is always fresh in our hearts and minds what we've all been through together.
We are thankful for our little boy. He really is growing up so fast!
