"Halloween" Week, 2010

This year, we did Halloween in an unusual way. Amos has been dealing with issues of being scared, for about the last 8 or 9 weeks. About 4 weeks ago, he was starting to feel better, with getting the being scared business under control. And then Halloween happened. Every store put up their scary stuff to sell and we had to be super careful about how we shopped. So this year, we figured (and Amos let us know) that we wouldn't really "celebrate" Halloween.

Then last week, Amos got into Spiderman and decided that he wanted to have a mask on his face like Spiderman does. So, totally unrelated to Halloween, we bought a Spiderman costume at Target and I was so thankful that this is the time of year to easily find Spiderman costumes! Since then, Amos has worn his cosutme everyday. The only costume available was a 2T which has proven to be too small. But, the mask is perfect. So today, since all of the Halloween stuff is 50% off at Target, I got a bigger costume that he can still wear over his clothes, now, and then grow into!

And, when he's in costume, we have to call him "Spiderman Amos" much like we had to do with one of my brothers when he was little and would dress up. I guess it is only natural to call them the character they happen to be at that time!

You might recognize Baby Sister's costume: It was Amos' that he wore when he was 16 months old. Yep. Again, perspective on Amos' small size. Anyway, she looked super cute in it, just like her brother!

On Saturday night, we carved our pumpkins. Nathan, (being the thorough guy that he is) took time to sketch a few faces and then got out the proper tools needed to carve the pumpkins. They ended up looking pretty darn cute, just like a certain Father and Son!
Also, this whole time, Amos has thought that Halloween was a place that we choose to go, not a day where stuff happens. Our local PBS station was having a Halloween event for kids and we would see ads for it on tv, almost every day. They were scary enough that Amos decided he didn't want to "go to Halloween because it's too scary."

So when yesterday afternoon came and we were getting ready to have friends come over, we had to explain that it was ok to have Halloween at our house and that it wouldn't be scary. Amos was ok with that. He put his Spiderman costume on and we got ready to have trick or treaters. We also had friends come over and hang out while we handed out candy and we all had so much fun. It was our first night staying at our house and we gave out a bunch of candy! And at first, Amos would come to the door with us and the kids would all exclaim about his costume. He soon realized his popularity and would then come to the door with us and would yell, "Spiderman! Look, I'm Spiderman!" as he ran and jumped around. He got pretty excited. He would even come downstairs (from playing in his room with his friends) to show the kids his costume. It was pretty funny.

We ended the evening with a music parade through the house and then everyone melted down around 8:30. We had a blast though and was thankful for friends to be here and celebrate with us!

And yes, Amos is back in his costume today!
