Amos 4.25
Today we had our first parent-teacher conference at Amos' school, which also happened to be our first parent-teacher conference ever!!
And what a kid he is. Yeah, I know I say that alot, but it's true. I am constantly amazed at the little person he is, how smart and creative and amazing he is. True, he's not perfect, but, he's so wonderful. It's almost as if we both did and didn't know how special and awesome he was going to be. I feel like he's been that way from day one.
Amos as a four-year-old is no different. He's hilarious, thoughtful, talkative and opinionated, more and more creative and a little bit of a show off! He's also pretty sensitive and emotional and still really loves to cuddle and be near Nathan and I.
He is doing really well in school. He's showing that he relates well to his teachers and is able to communicate with them really well. With his peers, not as much and I think it's because he's a communicator and plays better with kids he can talk easily with. And as he does at home, he can get into his own little world and pretend all morning long. His teachers think that it's just a social developmental piece and will come with time.
He can do so much by himself, too. Going to the bathroom is no problem, and apparently, he can put his coat on by himself, with a little bit of urging. He doesn't love to sit and color or write, and when the class is doing an art project, will do the minimal amount that is required. Nathan and I saw this first hand in the art project that was hanging up in the hallway. They had all made scarecrows and everyone else's had pretty elaborate faces. But Amos' had a face that was barely there! We laughed and thought it was pretty funny that he did what he needed to do!
Another thing that was quite funny was what his teachers said about his large motor skills. At first (on the inside), I was quite surprised that they even brought this up since he did therapy to help with alot of his movement, and that was over a year ago, maybe even two!
His teachers said that he climbs the structure on the playground really well and LOVES to rake and rakes every day. "But we haven't seen him run very much..." What??!? We had a good chuckle over that. Apparently, Amos is so excited to rake that he doesn't run on the playground. We told them what a runner Amos actually is and we all had a good laugh at that. Too, he doesn't ride the tricycle at school, but we think that maybe it's because the trike is outside and ours is inside?!?! He can definitely pedal, which is a great skill for him to aqcuire!
All in all, our conference was great. His teachers love him and mostly couldn't stop talking about how much Amos talks and how communicative he is. We were not surprised about that of course, as Amos talks nonstop at home. We love it though, as tiring as it can be sometimes. It's really amazing to hear what he thinks and cares about. For being a preemie, he has come a long way and I think, has almost caught up!
