We took a trip to Ikea a few weeks ago to get a new chair my birthday money. Of course, when you go to Ikea, you *never* leave with the ONE thing you went to buy, no no, you buy way more than you thought you would just because you're there and when will you be back, and oh, that would work well in our house too!! So we did that too. Because we did drive two hours and we did find things that would work well!! (It was so great to be there, too, kind of like going home or to some other really familiar place with happy memories!).
So on our way to the chair section, we walked through the couch section and found that they had new (to us) gray slipcovers available for our couch. We love our red couch and weren't really looking to change it, but the gray was so cool and the chair I wanted was red...too much red can be too much, sometimes. But the gray slipcovers were $250 for the set, which is waaaaay too much for something you don't need!
After much deliberation, we went to the warehouse to pick out our choices (which were going to be so much more than we had planned) and just deal with it!
On the way to the cash register, the As-Is section caught our eye, so we went in to see if there was anything worth grabbing. There were many returned pieces of furniture with a scratch here and there, and many mismatched linens of all kinds.
After a minute of digging through the huge linens bin, Nathan found a COMPLETE!!! set of gray couch slipcovers for four dollars a piece!! and we got really excited!! We decided to put back our expensive (but really cool blue chair cushion) and go for the red one and felt so much better about what had just happened. We went back to the As-Is section again and Nathan spotted another cushion (at half off!!) for our upstairs chair to go in the baby's room. We also found some pillow covers and slip covers in the really cool expensive fabric, that were super cheap. I grabbed those to take home and make into pillow covers.
When we got home, we could barely wait to get everything put together. Nathan assembled my new chair and I recovered the couch. We put the blue pillow cover fabric around on each piece of furniture and loved the look. The only problem was that our futon, which was covered in a tan cover, seemed out of place. We remembered that we had a dark purple corduroy duvet cover and put in on the futon. It was perfect!
We do miss our red couch from time to time. But I LOVE my new red chair. It is soooo comfy, perfect for pregnancy and beyond!!
