Fun Fridays Part 1

A few weeks ago, on a Friday that was Nathan's day off, we went to the zoo. The weather was wonderful (it's been a great summer here--not too hot!!) and we joined all of the other families that decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go to the zoo. It was packed, but it wasn't bad.

We hadn't been to the zoo since last October and this trip, by far, was the most fun we've ever had at the zoo. Amos was so interested in all of the animals and it was so cute hearing him try to learn their names.

We started out at the Aquatic Animals House, saw the sharks (Nathan pet one!!), the fish and the penguins--Amos enjoyed the penguins the most. We ended that part by seeing the walruses (?), and one was particularly friendly, coming up to the window and squishing his face on the glass. Amos was kind of scared at first but then waved to him. We laughed at the other walrus behind him who was standing straight up on his little flipper feet--he was sooo tall that his head was above the water!!

We saw lots of other fun animals. The hightlight, of course, was going to see the elephants. We walked all around the Grasslands area, seeing an ostrich (which was funny to see at the zoo since Beth and Dan saw one in Capetown on the road!), giraffes, hippos, monkeys, lions and then the elephants. But as we approached them, a classic thing happened: Amos spotted a construction site right across from the elephants. Of course, Amos was so excited to stand and watch the excavator dig and put dirt into the dump truck. He looked at the elephants too, but I would say that he spent more time looking at the digging going on across the way. We laughed at how we paid to get in and then watched the digging. It was classic, indeed.

Overall, it was a great morning at the zoo. We love hanging out with Dada and are so thankful for his days off!!
