Lately...

We've gone to the park on a sunny day,
We've gone to the library and played on the green screen stage, just like Aunts Bethany and Jessica,
We found a bed for all of our Sesame Street characters. And Amos drummed on his milk, surprise, surprise!
And maybe most importantly, Amos "made an h!" He came into the kitchen, delivered probably his first (correct) sentence, "Dada, I made a h!" and we ran into the living room to see this. We were quite impressed. Yes, it looks remotely like an h, and since we are creative people, we could go there with him!
Our little Amos is quite a treasure. Yes, I know, we already knew this, but it seems like he's the treasure that you are constantly realizing that you have. Like how you thank God for your dream car every time you drive it, or something like that. Except it's your child!! He's becoming a little person, more and more each day. Or, I should say, he's able to articulate the little person that he's always been, more and more, each day. Seriously, it's a daily occurence for us now, to shake our heads in amazement at what he says or understands. It's like I need a pocket diary to write it all down!
During the month of Feb, we've been focusing on letters and numbers. This happened because after watching some vintage Sesame Street, he was starting to recognize letters like Q, D and H. He's also a big fan of W and F is a recent addition. So I've gotten out our alphabet and number books and flash cards. And if I need to cook dinner and put him in front of the tv for an hour, vintage Sesame Street it is! (Thanks Kathy Peabody!!) That helps the guilt!
Anyway, so here we are, to March. I feel like I've gotten into full pre-school mode with Amos. I've been trying to remember the songs and other things we did at my job, remembering too, the the oldest kids I saw on a regular basis were Amos' age! They are cabable of so much. We bought the ABC disc by They Might Be Giants and enjoy it almost as much as Amos does.
We are doing the letters and numbers, like I said, mostly at breakfast. He needs a bit of entertainment to keep eating--not because we've trained him to eat that way, but because his mind is moving a mile a minute and he mistakes boredom for a full tummy. We are trying to get him to eat as much as possible, as usual, and tomorrow will begin the process to have more therapists come to our house to help us out in this department. I want to make sure that there's nothing else we could/should do. He also has some texture issues so we want to make sure we can help him get that taken care of too, before he gets too old.
We saw the pediatrician last week for a weigh in and he is at 23 pounds, which is up from 20 in August. The funny thing is that Amos' cousin, Elijah, is at 20 pounds. Yes, we're laughing, what else can you do?
Amos is also starting to articulate the opinions we've always known he's had. He is great at remembering melodies and songs and asks to hear them. He likes entire records, too, knowing most of the songs on albums by the Racontures, Fleet Foxes, Wilco, Radiohead and They Might Be Giants. He likes what we like, which helps, and we are being very careful what kiddie stuff we listen too--some of it is just too bad. Like listening to Radio Disney or something! And sometimes when we get those cds out, he gets his drums out and plays along on the bongos with drumsticks. Love it!

Aren't our little guys amazing? I just think they would be such good friends, I'm sad they hardly ever get to play together. Maybe they'll end up being college roommates one day!
Miss you guys (as always)
