The weekend has been busy and fun, and it's not over yet.
On Friday, Amos and I drove to the East side to my old job, Bright Horizons at Overlake. I worked at this childcare center (that is in the thick of Microsoft) for two years before Amos was born. I feel like a whole other community is there, one that I feel more connected to in some ways--I was there everyday for two years--that's something!
I caught up with folks that are still there that I worked with and showed Amos off. He loved being there with all of the new faces and new toys. I loved being there, in familiar territory, hearing stories and seeing everyone. I also enjoyed my drive, going over Lake Washington and breathing in the fresh, cool air. I even got to remember the old days of sitting in Seattle traffic. Things had started to back a bit while trying to get back over the bridge to Seattle and it was only 2pm on Friday! People start their weekends early in the summer, I guess!
We made it home in time for Amos to continue his nap and then got ready to go to the Kellys' house for a big dinner shindig.
More than 30 people came to give us hugs and hang out with us and we had a blessed time being together. Many of those that came are Elders or on staff/the music team and are people we saw alot of. It was great to hang out with them and to catch up, as well. Amos' nap only lasted an hour and a half that afternoon, so he was in fine form that night. Thankfully we were able to borrow a pack n play and put him to bed.
On Saturday, we were up early again! and decided to get lunch at our favorite spot. Blue C sushi is this kitschy place that has great sushi that goes around the room on a conveyor belt. We met Beth and Eli at the U Village shopping center and had ourselves a tasty lunch! After that, we went over to the little playground in the thick of all the stores and let Amos run around for a minute. He loved it, but was soon ready for a nap. He was out as soon as we started driving and when we got home, we all napped and napped for quite awhile!
We had dinner at Dan and Laura Ribera's house last night and was joined by their two boys, Jordan and Mark and also by Chad and Lauren Lloyd. We enjoyed dinner in their backyard sanctuary and then enjoyed s'mores around their little fire pit. Thankfully, Amos went to bed, again, in a pack n play and let us have a good time sitting.
This morning we worshipped at Green Lake and really enjoyed it. Oddly enough, it was a sort of reunion Sunday, with the Dorseys (former Assistant Pastor at Green Lake and current Head Pastor at our church in Indy), the Vanden Brinks (former Associate Pastor at Green Lake and current Head Pastor at a church in St. Louis), us, my sister and Dan, and friends of ours who are visiting their family on Whidby Island. It was helpful to have those folks from our current life in Indy to help me remember what a sweet community we have waiting for us in our new home, making things a bit better.
We also witnessed the baptism of our "nephew," Ezra and were so happy to be here for that. Thankfully, the service was different enough that I wasn't too emotional and got to enjoy quick catchups with folks afterwards.
This afternoon we head to the park for more fun...
(On a side note, I am feeling better about being here. I am not so sad that we don't live here, although I will miss leaving this place and our friends and family. But I feel like the more I talk about Indy and home, the more real it is to me that we live there and not here. And some how, I am comforted.).
