In the last two days, lots has happened. On Tuesday morning, our Developmental Therapist came and worked with Amos. She had him do some specific play this time, pulling toys out of her bag and playing with them one at a time. The first thing was the stacking cups. Amos pulled them apart, pretending to drink out of one and taking them all apart. Amos finally was able to put them back inside of each other, which was a good exercise for Amos in problem solving and learning colors. Then we got out a puzzle with fish pieces that had pieces of metal on each piece where there would be a knob for you to grab. The idea was to use a mini fishing pole with a magnet at the end and he would have to dangle the magnet over each metal part to get the piece out. At first it was tough for him to do. Then he realized he could set the magnet on the metal then use the pole to pull the piece out. He focused on it for awhile, which impressed Hannah. She again commented on his problem solving skills and was excited about how long he spent working on it. We talked more about getting him to eat all types of textures, learning new words and ways to help him get more social time in. It was a great visit and we were glad with the outcomes.
That afternoon, we had friends stop by to play for awhile. Their house is being remodeled and they needed a place to hang out between activities, so it was fun to have them over to play and show them our new remodel! Tuesday night I was feeling especially achey and got Amos to bed so I could veg and wait for Nathan to come home.
Yesterday was Nathan's day off and he took care of Amos so I could sleep in. It felt so wonderful to sleep in and catch up on sleep. Nathan was so sweet to take care of Amos, since he got less sleep than I did the night before. He helped out alot, going to the store and helping with Amos. It was great to hang out with him too, and have him home!!
Yesterday was a big day for Amos. While playing with toys yesterday morning, Amos hummed the middle part of "Twinkle, Twinkle, little star" that he knows, but then started into the next verse, which he usually doesn't sing. We freaked out! It was cool that Nathan was there to witness it too.
At dinner, we got Amos to actually say, "all done" and it was very close to the real thing. That was very exciting, as we try to get Amos to say it rather than sign it. Another new thing he did was to express that HE wanted to do something, by saying his name, how he says it: us.
I was feeding him with a spoon and he wanted to do the spoon so he pointed to it and said, "us? us? us?" and I had to say, "Mama, Mama, Mama." He did it at two different times and we realized last night how that is another step in his realizing names and lables for people and things. He commonly will sit on the couch and pat the seat next to him, saying "Mama, Mama, Mama," wanting me to sit with him, or do other activities.
It's really exciting to see him doing these things, to watch the wheels turn, to see him figure things out. We love watching these milestones happen and feel like they are happening so quickly now that it's tough to keep up!
This morning we woke up and realized that we all slept through the night!!! Amos has not slept through in a long time, due mostly to waking himself up from coughing. He coughed alot when he woke up but made it through the night, which was so great! We loved sleeping!!
My ankle is still stiff and a bit swollen. It's starting to turn green and blue, but I can walk around on it, so things are getting better.
