Monday at home

Today Nathan took the car, so Amos and I stayed home and played. The first half of our day was a bit tough. I don't really know what the problem was, but when it was time for breakfast he started to get cranky and ate very little. After a walk down the street to watch the cars, we had more breakfast on the front porch. After more play, it was Puffins time, which is always a hit, and, if we give him enough, a blood sugar booster! He's been eating them so much lately that his feeding skills are really coming along. He eats most every bite with the spoon and gets it in his mouth almost every time he tries. It's great to see him doing so well with that. After Puffins time, it was bath time. Sometimes the Puffins and their milk can get everywhere and make things sticky and crusty. Amos enjoyed his bath but when he couldn't make the yogurt container stand up in the water, right side up, he got mad and threw a fit. So bath time was over! Our morning was like this, happy then fit-throwing. Amos seems to always be teething these days, or tired or hungry, causing the easy frustration.

So after his bath, he played awhile in his room, with his Sesame Street people set, the stacking rings (we practiced colors) and the alphabet puzzle. After some good play, it was nap time. I worked on many projects, cleaned, did laundry and putzed and was surprised to look at the clock and see that two and a half hours went by and Amos was still asleep! Around 4, I started hearing some talking upstairs and was so excited that he slept for 3 hours!! He was in such a good mood, too! We had a snack of cheese and ham, apples and bananas. He ate all of them and enjoyed munching on the apple again. After picking up Nathan from work, I made dinner and the boys played. Amos enjoyed wheeling around the house on his motorcyle from his cousin Danny and at one point, they had to stop and work on it. Amos was to the rescue with his drill and screw driver, putting it in just the right place. Again, much like his ease with instruments and music, this freaked us out. The way he just "knows" how to do these things surprises us and yet, doesn't surprise us. I think the fact that he's so young and is still grasping such complex concepts is what is so baffling to us. And, it's not like Nathan has worked on a bunch of cars lately, so that too, is especially interesting.

Anyway, at dinner, Amos continued to impress us. He ate the green beans that I fixed (sauteed in olive oil, with garlic), even though they puzzled him, he continued to eat them. So that was exciting. He soon motioned for more so I said, "More pasta?" and he said, "Pasta!" Again, we freaked out. And everytime after that, he said, "Pasta" when he wanted more pasta. It was pretty amazing, hearing him say the word so well at first.

After dinner we all laid on the floor and read books, mostly about animal noises. He's getting better at saying different sounds, but still wants to bark for most animals. We'll just keep working on them.
