today, we've gone to the Dr, gotten rejected by Medicaid, and have eaten fish 'n' chips at Starbucks. All in a morning's work!
Oh, and belated happy birthdays to my Dad (yesterday) and Grammy Carole (last Wednesday)!! We love you both!
This morning Amos still had a fever so we made an appointment and went to see the Doctor. We dropped Nathan off, first, for our Medicaid appt and then headed West. The appointment was ok, Amos by then, was ready to nap (from sleeping so poorly last night), and has a general disgust for Doctor's offices now, thanks to getting poked every time we go to one! She looked at his throat, talked about our weekend and looked in his ears. His left ear had so much ear wax (that doesn't come out due to small ear canals) that we had to hold him down, put drops in, then rinse out the drops and hopefully, the ear wax. The ear wax finally came out and she was able to see his ear. That was the really unpleasant part. Thank goodness I've had to hold him down many times for shots or other things, because this would have rocked my world as his mom. As it was, I was trying not to cry! He didn't seem to have strep throat or an ear infection, which was good news.
As our appointment wound down, Amos was starting to feel cooler (his temp at the start of the appointment was only 100.2) and we were hoping that we were seeing a rash. As the afternoon went on, the rash didn't really develop but his temp stayed lower. I vigilantly was putting my hand to his forehead, so much so that Amos started doing it too!
After we picked up Nathan (and were denied Medicaid coverage b/c we make too much money), we headed north to our favorite Irish place that allows kids. We soon found out when we got there that today they were not letting children in, just today. There were already lots of drunk people around, and a tent in the parking lot for more partying tonight. I was a bit surprised, as we did not see this in Seattle. But we think that the midwest is a bit different and maybe a bit more Irish!!
So Amos and I went in to Starbucks across the street, purchased some food and found a table. Nathan went and got fish 'n' chips take out, which we ate right there in Starbucks. Sadly, I left my camera at home and did not capture the absurdity! We also grabbed some Guinness from the liquor store and headed home.
Amos is now peacefully napping; Nathan is hard at work and I am home, trying not to worry.
Tomorrow, we see the Neurosurgeon at 9 to check in and then we will possibly go back to the DR if Amos still has a temp of 101 or higher. I am praying that we don't have to go back. If we do, she'll want to check for viruses and infections, involving putting in a catheter (ouch!), blood draws and nose swipes. Amos hates to have his temp taken, so you can imagine my reluctance to have all of this done.
Thanks for keeping us in your prayers.
