Poor lil' Amosy guy. We went to the doctor wondering if Amos had a viral infection and left with a prescription to treat strep throat. Yesterday, his teething fever got hotter, prompting a cool bath, more tylenol and some concern from his parents. His temp went up and down, with us finally stripping him down last night for sleeping in his diaper. I found out yesterday, late in the day, that our dr. appointment today had been cancelled, since our doctor is also sick. I called this morning to try to get someone else to see Amos, but they were all full. Then Julie Berend called, just at the right time, to sadly cancel tonight's birthday dinner. But I got her pediatrician's number, and they had an opening. God is good! The Riley nurse did call back to make sure Amos' condition wasn't serious and told me to "keep an eye on him throughout the day." I love our doctors and neurosurgeons at Riley, but the rest of the hospital has the midwest curse: apathy and inefficiency. Our appointment at the IU Med Group affirmed my gut feeling to have him looked at, just to make sure, and although Amos was a real handful while the Dr tried to listen to him and check his ears, the appointment was pleasant and I really like our new pediatrician. And, parking was free! We'll be going back in a couple of weeks and I am excited to have found a good Dr in a good place.
Supposedly we are going to get 4-6 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow, excitement to add to the strep throat excitement. In light of all of this, Nathan has canceled his trip to the church's Men's Retreat, and we are all glad he'll be home. He made a very mature and responsible decision to go, even though it's on his 30th birthday, but today, feels the need to stay home with his family. I am glad he's chosen to be with us and we'll be glad to celebrate. Plus it'll be great to have his help and companionship as I am homebound, snowed in and caring for a sick kid.
This week has been good. Amos was showing signs, over the weekend, of feeling better and I was really excited to get him well again. Oh well!
Monday night we had dinner with a family at church. It was really enjoyable and they even loaned us a walking toy that is easy for Amos to maneuver while he learns to walk.
Tuesday morning brought a visit from Jenny Dorsey, and good thoughts as we discuss, over time, what it means for us to be on staff at a church. After she left, we went over for play group and had fun playing with moms and kids. Tuesday night Amos and I braved a nasty storm that sent us to the basement for fear of a tornado!
Wednesday was a fun day with Daddy around, but towards last night, Amos started to seem sick again.
So this weekend we'll lay low, watch the falling snow and celebrate another year of Nathan.
AND...check out how cute my sister is, as she grows our nephew in her belly...
