Yesterday morning, I woke up early to drive north to Chicago for my Uncle Paul's funeral. He passed away, earlier this week, of Guillain-Barre syndrome. (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/guillain-barre-syndrome/DS00413)
It is very rare to die from this syndrome, which made it all the sadder. He was a sweet uncle, although I didn't see him very much. The celebration of his life brought my dad's immediate and extended family together and I really enjoyed being with them all. Too, it was my first time to explore Chicago and I loved it! Nathan graciously stayed home with all three kiddos and I had a great overnight away. I stayed with my dad and had extended hangout time with him.
I slept through the night last night and enjoyed a day of slow meals, good conversation, The Art Institute of Chicago and lots of Starbucks!
I made it home safely to a family that barely let me get through the front door without hugs first. It's great be missed and loved and to get away to gain a little bit of perspective!
