On Monday, we had breathing treatments for sicknesses that had developed...

And by Wednesday morning, we had to take Amos to the ER at Riley Children's Hospital because Amos had coughed literally all night and couldn't stop. After a few hours of PBS kids and some good listening to Amos' lungs, he got a breathing treatment and was released. Since there was no infection, we went home to wait out the cough.

Amos got to veg out on the futon and watch Star Wars. He continued to cough but I gave him lots of chamomile/lavender tea with honey, and rubbed lavender and other essential oils on his throat. He fell asleep during a breathing treatment, which was relieving to me until...

...ten minutes later, when he woke up coughing and couldn't fall back asleep. So I cradled him and got him to sleep, but he was up, literally, every ten minutes, again. He finally woke up and was up, wanting to watch Star Wars again. And soon, Baby Sister was up to join the party and somehow, I cuddled with both sick kiddos!

On Thursday, it was Flannery's turn to wear a hospital gown, for her 1 year old well-child checkup. She woke up that morning with congestion and cough so I was glad that we were going to the doctor. (Although, I wasn't as concerned for her full term lungs as I had been for Amos'.) When the doc listened to Flannery's lungs, she didn't like all of the congestion and felt like she couldn't tell if there was something really wrong. So she did a breathing treatment and listened again. The doc still heard some concerning congestion on the left side. She gave me the option of getting Flannery an xray or some antibiotics. The doc suggested antibiotics and because I know she's slow to use antibiotics, I agreed.

I later reflected on the irony that I had been so worried about Amos having pneumonia, but it was really Flannery that I should have been more concerned for. Either way, now we know. And even though it was a really expensive week, I'm glad that they are doing better. Better enough to be doing baby yoga, anyway!
