It's been a bit confusing in the weeks between the our birthday party celebration in TN (see the post below) and Amos' actual birthday. For example, even though for his birthday, he got his beloved drumset, he still was 2, which is what he said at the pool when they tried to charge me for a three-year-old. He said, "I not 3, I 2." Still, I was very flattered that they thought he was 3. Finally!!So when Monday, July 20th came along, I was so excited to wake him up and say "Happy birthday, today you are 3!!!" It was such a fun day, simply because he sorta got it this year!
We started the day early. We had an appointment with the developmental pediatrician at Riley so we had to get up early, eat and go. We decided to go first, then eat and had a yummy birthday breakfast at Starbucks. It was a beautiful morning, the sun was out but it was still cool. Our breakfast was really pleasant, but soon, it was time to go.

We got to the hospital and waited for awhile and then was finally taken back to see the doctor. Amos weighed in at 24 lbs!! and was 3 feet tall, which made us very happy!
And the report was a really good one! Amos is at a three year old level, cognitively and developmentally, meaning he knows his colors, letters, numbers, shapes, etc. and knows cause and effect actions like turning off the tv, etc. He can also do a two-step command, like be told to get his shoes and go to the door. The doctor was happy, most of all, with his creativity, as Amos played and pretended the entire time we talked to the doctor. He just ran around in his diaper, pretending to drive, to go out the door, all sorts of things.
We also talked about his eating, growing and other things of that nature. The Doc was not super freaked out about his weight and was glad that his height was growing at a faster pace. In the end, he felt like Amos looked great and was a three-year-old level, and was happy with him considering the premature birth and brain trauma Amos endured. There still may be other issues that could emerge as Amos grows up, but we're glad so far for such a good report!
And since it was Amos' birthday, we got free parking AND a playdough set! What a good day to go!
The rest of the day was quite low key. We took Nathan to work and then went home to break out the Play-Doh! I must admit, Amos has had little exposure to Play-Doh--he's always seemed more interested in sand or dirt, things he can move with his mini bulldozer and dump truck. But he enjoyed playing with the stuff and loved all the colors. Our set came with numbers and letters too, so it's fun AND educational!!

While I made the birthday boy's dinner request, pizza, the boys dug the dirt outside, from where the holes had been dug for our fence posts. Of course, Amos LOVED digging with his Dada, and I would say that was part of what made his birthday so special!
