(after, March 2007)
Remember when you chopped your hair off? It was the end of your first winter in hibernation and you were a bit stir-crazy for something new. You could not be talked out of cutting it ALL off--you thought you could recreate the cute cut from your college days, forgetting that much had changed since then. You were so crazed that you did it (to) yourself (and that's why it really hurt), only to go in to have it finished later that week. From there, the misery began. It was too short to put back but somehow always in your face. It was waaaaay more high maintenance since your hair was wavier than you remembered. And you felt like a boy, even though you looked cute (looking back) and you felt young and free (for five minutes), you still felt like a boy. Sure, when your hair was long, it was always in a pile on your head. But the difference is that the potential was always there for it to be something, if you ever felt inspired to use the extra five minutes that you had, on your hair.
And here's another thing you've figured out: you like pulling your hair back. You don't like it to be around your face and that's why short hair was so darn difficult!
If all that weren't bad enough, another thing you learned is that it's expensive to have short hair! Growing it out takes lots of trims and such and those bills rack up fast! Sure, it's nice and luxurious to go have someone massage your scalp and all, but still. And all of the trimming only makes the growing out process take more time.
So please, don't EVER do that again! I mean it, you WILL regret it soon after the fact, for all of the reasons listed above. Two years later, your hair is finally long enough to put up into your favorite bun and it FEELS GREAT!! Please, if you must, cut it to your shoulders so that at least you can still put it back, away from your face.
I trust that if you are hit with the urge to cut your hair so drastically, that you'll look back at this post as a reminder. For it seems that only you could have talked yourself out of this one! And if this post isn't enough, look back at your short hair pictures and you'll remember that in those moments, you were wishing for your long hair again, just so you could put it up in the bun!

HAHAHHAHAHHAAA! Love it, Sarah. You are too funny. Beth and I would always complain- your hair is so pretty, but you always just throw it up there! I'm the opposite. I always think, oh, maybe I'll like having long hair, and I should grow it out... NO! YOU SHOULDN'T!
I fight this urge almost daily! I ALWAYS regret cutting it, usually because I almost never go to my favorite stylist. I'm going on a year+ of no hair cut. Which isn't good either:). It's to the middle of my back now.
I'd have to say I like your hair short, but I love it long - you have gorgeous hair!
Im with you Sarah! Here's to growing out our hair...cheers! (You are farther ahead...cant wait for the bun!)
i spent several years with super short hair...i knew it was time to grow it back out when i started having this recurring dream (fantasy) where i was standing in front of a mirror brushing my long hair...there are times when i think about cutting it off again and then i remember that dream
yay, the bun is back! i've missed it.
Awesomeness!! I am SO laughing OL :)
I couldn't tell if you were writing to yourself or to me. I decided both, even though you might have thought it was just for you!! I'm looking forward to a summer bun and less $$$ spent on clairecuts :)
Love you Bun Girl!!
OH--AMEN to that, sister! Short hair is a pain in the neck! Glad your locks are on the way back.
