The fun we had this weekend.

Well it turns out that I had a little stomach bug. This was confirmed when Nathan announced on Friday night that he didn't feel well and spent the evening flat on the couch. Further confirmation came during the night, with Nathan running to the restroom on a few occassions. Needless to say, he was down for the count on Saturday, which made me sad--sad to miss out on a day to be all together and sad that Nathan was now infected with what troubled me earlier in the week. Thankfully Amos has yet to be sick and we keep praying that he'll be spared!
So on Saturday, we were up, bright and early, with a beautiful sunny day to look forward to. After breakfast, Amos and I walked to the Winter Farmers' Market which is just a block away! There are many farmers and folks there with lots of homegrown and homemade goodies. Amos and I bought some apples for later in the day. On our way back home, we decided to walk along the creek, which Amos really enjoyed. Have I mentioned that he's really into running? So he ran up and down the sidewalk by the creek and had a ball. We played in some leaves and stopped to look at a tree. When we got home, he spied his sandbox on the porch so we stayed outside and played in the sand. After nap, we hung out and had snack together. Then we attempted to visit another church, where Nathan was filling in, leading worship. He still wasn't feeling very well but did okay leading. We stayed for about half of the service as it was dinner time and Amos was having a hard time using his quiet voice in the small and still church!

Yesterday, we celebrated the beginning of Advent at church. The kids chanted as they came down the aisles and we had an longer but good church service. I enjoyed sleeping the afternoon away, as I usually do on Sundays. Nathan takes Amos after they wake up and run to Blockbuster to grab a movie. He was feeling better yesterday so they had fun being together for a little while!

For dinner, I made one of my favorite recipes: Turkey Sage Chowder. I look forward to Thanksgiving each year so I can make this with the leftovers! And today, I had it for lunch. It was so good! The flavors really mingled over night!

Here's the recipe:

Turkey Sage Chowder Bon Appétit November 2001
Yield: Makes 4 servings

4-6 bacon slices (about 4 ounces), coarsely chopped
2 cups chopped onions
1 russet potatoe, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
2 cups whole milk
1 cup of chopped carrots
2 cups canned low-salt chicken broth
one can of condensed cream of potato soup
one can of corn
2 tablespoons chopped fresh sage
2 1/2 cups diced cooked turkey

Cook bacon in heavy large saucepan over medium heat until crisp, about 8 minutes. Transfer bacon to paper towels to drain.
Pour off all but 2 tablespoons drippings from pan.
Increase heat to medium-high, add onions and sauté until tender, about 5 minutes.
Mix in potatoes, milk, broth, cream of potato soup, carrots, corn and 1 tablespoon sage.
Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.
Add turkey meat, bacon, and remaining 1 tablespoon sage. Simmer until heated through, stirring occasionally, about 4 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve.

And after dinner, in attempts to clean up, I broke the kitchen faucet. It had apparently come unscrewed (which is scary that it was that easy) and water shot out all over our kitchen! So while Nathan fixed it, I gave Amos a haircut!

(before...)

(...and after! It's amazing how far Winnie the Pooh and a binky can get ya!)

Nathan was next. Look at that mop! I didn't get an after shot but it looks much like Amos' haircut!
