We had a good and restful Sunday, after our camping trip. Amos was back to wiggly form in church, which was ok, but tiring. We had lunch with a group of people from church and discussed the possibility of hosting a community group from church at our house, in the fall. We really want to have people in, more, and this is definitely one way to do that regularly.
We had naps and then went on a returns escapade, returning things that have built up over the last month. I commented on how much money we made and Nathan returned the comment saying, "No, we just got back money we didn't have in the first place!" Oh well! After a cheap dinner date we headed home to beat yet another storm and got ready for bed.
As the day went on Amos sneezed and coughed more and more until last night, it was finally apparent that he has a little summer cold. We tried not to get too bummed, since we're planning to go to St. Louis on Wednesday and stay with a friends and their family. But the cold progressed so much over night (we slept ok, but Amos ended up with us in the middle of the night all sneezy and coughy!), that he might be better by Wednesday. I think we'll still all go and if we have to, check into a motel and hang out there until he feels better. I don't want to be alone with a sick Amos and Nathan a few states away! We are going for a friend's wedding that is on Friday and that Nathan is doing music for. On Wednesday night, Nathan is doing a small concert (I *might* get to sing too!) and Thursday is the rehearsal. We will get to see Tim and Whitney Bailey, too, which we are really looking forward to! So, as you can tell, I really want to go, too!
Amos is on the NO! warpath, saying it for everything. It's funny and startling all at the same time. Right now we can tell that he only means it about half of the time and when we know he means Yes, we try to get him to say that, which he only says half of the time. Anyway, it's an interesting turn of events, but a good one, since it means he's learning and growing more.
And this morning, while Nathan was in the downstairs bathroom, he heard a car pull up in the alley and sit right next to the bathroom window. He got out the back door in time to see a strange guy running through our backyard with our neighbors' lawnmower, which was out behind their house. He yelled at the guy to stop, but the guy threw the mower into the car and they were off. We called the police and gave a statement of events. At the end of the alley is a suspicious house which they know about and we talked in length about how to be better and more watchful neighbors. This particular aspect of living here has been a bit unsettling and hard to adjust to, but now I know to be on my guard and to feel free to call the police if I see anything remotely suspicious. I guess God is using us in redeeming this city and slowly, I've been able to relinquish my need for safety and security and just trust God to protect us. I'm glad that Nathan didn't chase the guy down, and he is too. It's good to know that he wants to protect us but won't run down a guy that's only stealing a lawnmower!
Today we'll lay low, helping Amos to feel better. I hope he gets better soon, but only time will tell, I suppose!
