Well, it's Thursday, and still, no little Elijah. That's ok. We're making plans for the weekend and are preparing to stay here. The last few days have been better; Amos made it through more dark teething hours and we've been quite the social butterflies.
Tuesday night we had a spontaneous dinner party, inviting over the Berends (Julie, Zach and Zane), the Sqrows (Trish, Ellie and Abe) and had a fun time, moms and kids, eating together. Nathan came home later from work and enjoyed hanging out with everyone.
Wednesday morning we did another Physical Therapy appointment with Miss Christine, who checked in on Amos' feet (we're taking him next week to the Orthotics people to be evaluated), got him to go up and down steps while holding onto things, and worked with him on stepping over low obstacles. He did well, overall, but did get fussy after awhile, which we still attributed to the teeth. We have a three week break so Christine can get married and go on a honeymoon, which gives us time to continue practicing going up steps, assisted and by himself; stepping over low objects and jumping.
After our appointment, we took Nathan to church and sent him off on a much-needed retreat, to relax and hang out with other members of the church staff. I wasn't excited (and neither was he, actually) to be by myself for the next 24 hours, but it wasn't that bad.
We headed for the park from church, where I made Amos practice going up the smaller steps and was excited to see him succeed many times in stepping up while holding the rails. After that we went home for lunch and later played upstairs. Amos figured out how to go down the slide on his playhouse facing front with his feet out. In his stocking feet, he flew down the slide, catching air and bumping to the floor. So we made up a game where I would count to 3 and he would GO! We did this over and over for awhile and finally, Amos was ready for his nap.
After nap we went to the Raders' house for a BBQ. Amos had fun with the play lawn mower--he's really into lawn mowers and their sounds. Last night went well. After Amos had a second dinner, he went to bed and slept well. He was up though, at 4:30, when I heard him talking and playing. After realizing I would have to get up and help him, I heard him sing all of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" which he's been trying to sing all of. I was so excited, even though it was so early!
I ended up having to go in to help three times and finally realized that Amos was hungry and maybe had teething pain. We both got snacks and went back to bed. I brought him and his giant dog in bed with me, which was a mistake! After Amos kept getting pieces of his doggy's fur in this mouth, I kicked the dog out of bed! We finally got more sleep and was up around 9.
We played at the park with friends this morning and met up with Nathan upon his return to the church. It was so good to see him and I was particularly happy that the night went smoothly: no major Amos happenings and no big noises or scary things to get through alone. I think we'll all sleep well tonight!
