Catching up...again

As I type this, Amos is working on falling asleep on his own, in his bed, without me sitting next to him. It's a big step, and if it works, it will be another milestone met! He still sleeps with us for half the night, into the morning, but if we can get him to go to sleep on his own, being alone in his bed and room, then it might work for him to go back to sleep at night while we sleep!! We'll see. And I just checked, and he's out! Woo hoo!! It worked!!!
So I will start with today and work backwards...hope this works!
Wednesday, Feb 13th--Early Valentine's Day date:
This morning, we headed to the RSV clinic so that Amos could get his monthly shot to help him fight off lung infections. The regular shots have thoroughly ruined going to any sort of Doctor's office, as he starts to cry the minute we take his clothes off to be weighed. And today was no different. Oh well! Afterward he was especially sad so upon our arrival home, he curled up and cuddled with me while we watched Ellen and then fell asleep. When he woke up, he was in a much better mood and seemed to be less sore.
For lunch, Nathan, Amos and I went for sushi to celebrate Valentine's Day, early. It was so yummy as we realized it had been awhile! Amos was so good, too, waving to people sitting near us and being entertained with the cool asian things. The rolls were great, and very beautiful. We ordered a very expensive dragon roll, but it was worth it, beautiful and great tasting!

(l-r) Dragon roll, sun roll, 2 california rolls and a shrimp tempura roll. Delish!!

Nathan is working this afternoon and tonight we get to go play at the Berends' house while Mike and Julie have a date.

Tuesday, Feb 12th--I am now a legally licensed Indiana driver!!

Yesterday, after a slow start in the morning, Nathan dropped by and we worked out a plan for me to get my license, later in the day. My sweet and so helpful husband decided to take time out of his busiest day of the week to help! That motivated me and I read my book, cover to cover, to prepare for the test. There were many things I would come across that seemed like things worth remembering and boy, I was right. I really think it was truly God's help and mercy that got me through the experience. I was quite intimidated since it took me three tries (three written and one driving!) to pass the WA state driver's test. So I have been putting it off since we moved and to make things even more dramatic, my license expired in Oct. So, you can imagine what a huge relief it was to have passed the test yesterday and have it all done and over with. Well, until we move out of state again, which I hope is not for a really really really long time, if ever.

At lunch yesterday, Amos at an entire half of a banana, for the first time. He's only ever taken a few bites, then mushed it up in his hands, so the fact that he ate it all and by himself is really exciting. He's really turning into the little person (we're still working on the toddling) and I keep having these moments where I realize how old he his and how far we've come. I know it's obvious for all of you, but not for me!! He also says "uh-oh" but his way is to say "ah-ha" in the uh-oh tone of voice. And he's finally saying "Ma-ma" for me, although not as enthusiastically as "da-da" but we're working on it!!

Monday, Feb 11th--Playing and saying goodbye:

We spent the morning waking up and eating breakfast, with Grammy Carole Partain, who had been visiting all weekend. Grandpa Joe had already returned home to teach his classes and Grammy was getting ready to return, herself. Amos played with Nathan and his giant doggy (who just so happened to bark when Da-da was playing too) and played piano with Grammy. Later in the day, we tried on newly discovered overalls that fit and Amos attempted to "fix" the piano.

Sunday and Saturday:
Grammy C arrived that morning and she and Nathan took a tour of the church building and then did some birthday shopping. I stayed home with a sleeping Amos and then made birthday dinner. Grandpa Joe arrived in time for yummy Pork tenderloin (my first!), baked Mac and Cheese, salad and steamed green beans. We enjoyed hanging out together and celebrating Nathan, once again!
Sunday morning, we all enjoyed church together and made it back to our warm home. It was soooo cold that day! After lunch and a nap, Grandpa Joe headed back home to make it for school the next day. We all napped and then played and hung out. Amos really worked on his walking this weekend, getting us all excited for the day that he can walk on his own. I know, I know, he'll be all over the place, but I'm ready!
We were glad to have the Partain parents to visit and are thankful for a great last week, no sickness, a happy toddler and happy parents!
