Fun in 3D!

We've just returned from seeing the new IMAX movie, U23D, which was awesome. It was Amos' first movie in the theater and he did so well. He danced alot of the time, at one point getting down to Pride (In the Name of Love), which was appropriate for the day.
Seeing the movie made me think about all the times that I've seen U2. The first time, was when I was ten and my dad took us to see the movie, Rattle and Hum, in the theater. He took me and my brothers and I remember it vividly, the energy and close-ups! I was a fan at a young age, and I started finding older people in my life (youth counselors, my band teacher, etc) that were also into U2. It was cool to talk about them together and I remember feeling such an excited energy when we talked about their music.
The next few U2 times were in concert: in Birmingham, for my fifteenth birthday, a surprise from my parents; in Memphis, after my first year of college, with my brother Jesse and good friends, Megan and Kyle. That was a really fun trip. Megan and I made a giant sign on a bed sheet wishing Bono a happy birthday. We had floor seats and when they came out to the middle to play a few songs, Adam spotted our sign and smiled. We felt very accomplished!
The last time was a few years ago, with Nathan and other Seattle friends, on the Vertigo tour. That was a blast.
This movie was a show from that tour, one played in Buenos Aires. It was a different set, but still so great. There were moments when you felt like part of the crowd, and others when you felt like you were standing next to Bono on stage, or floating over Larry, while he banged the drums.
We were so pleased that Amos sat through the whole thing and was interested. Nathan pulled out his drums today, and Amos played each one in the room. At one point, Larry is in the middle of the floor, banging a big floor tom. When Amos saw that, he was glued and I think, knew what was happening. It was fun to dance with him. It made me happy to carry on the tradition my dad started, taking his young children to see U2; having fun together and sharing something so wonderful.
